Primarily responsible for providing telephone triage services for the clinic utilizing professional knowledge and skills along with standing orders. May also provide professional nursing care under supervision for ! clinic patients.
Assess patient's clinical status via telephone dialogue. Applies the components of the nursing process: assessment, plan of care, and implementation of care which includes but is not limited to, assessment information, triage parameters, standing orders, and clinical judgment. Identifies possible life threatening emergencies and responds with appropriate interventions. Acts as patient/parent advocate to obtain necessary care.
Documents all calls received according to clinic standards and information provided. Communicates phone advice in an appropriate manner to facilitate understanding by the caller. Counsels patients and sends information per providers' instructions on diet and health and disease management. Schedules appointments for patients with non-urgent to acute needs. Informs and educates patients on results of tests, lab work and the implications on overall health/continued treatment. Organizes call-related workload to facilitate identific! ation or priority patient callers, appropriate screening and d! isposition. Provides a return call to caller/patient per triage standards of care. Provides selective patient information to patient's health care provider as necessary to coordinate and ensure continuity of care. Maintains required program records. Maintains statistical data as required. Assists in quantifying data and identifying trends in patient population. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
Strong clinical judgment skills and the ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to effectively communicate with providers to return patient calls quickly and provide accurate information. Must demonstrate excellent inter-personal skills and support teamwork among staff and providers. Excellent communication skills to educate patients regarding health and disease processes, answer patients' questions and address patient concerns. Strong skills in independent thinking. Ability to respond ca! lmly and effectively in emergency situations. Maintains patient confidentiality. Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to accurately triage patients in a timely fashion. Ability to interpret, adapts, and applies guidelines and procedures. Participates in training new employees, if appropriate, and shares and demonstrates knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to ensure a safe work environment. Prepares patients for examinations and treatment, gives injections, and "floats" as helping hands for the MAs and OB/GYN Care Specialists when needed to facilitate patient flow, as directed by Practice Manager. Performs new OB patient intake assessments and makes referral calls as needed to facilitate patient flow. Ability to work as a team. Complete understanding of departmental policies and procedures and HIPPA regulations. Completion on a yearly basis of all BMC mandatory requirements such as: AHU, TB te! sts, and flu vaccinations. All other duties as assigned.

Minim! um two years recent professional obstetric and/or gynecologic experience in acute or ambulatory care.
Knowledge of English language in order to understand and transmit information orally or in writing which can normally be obtained through completion of high school.
Strong knowledge of obstetrical and gynecological conditions.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
Basic computer skills.

Educational Requirements
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
License/Certification Required
Current RN licensure in the State of Michigan required. Maintain current BLS certification.
