Cells of the innate and adaptive immune systems are critical components of our immune defense. However, dysregulation of immune responses can cause a variety of diseases, including many prevalent pregnancy disorders and complications, such as abortion, pre-term labor, preeclampsia and intrauterine infection. Our laboratory studies the regulation of innate and adaptive immunity during pregnancy using a combination of biochemical, molecular and immunological approaches in human specimens and mouse models. Our research is critical to understanding and treating many pregnancy diseases and improving the quality of life of mothers and babies.

h3. *Requirements* Candidates should be motivated, intellectually curious and passionate about research in immunology, and have a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in a discipline of biological or biomedical sciences. Experience in immunology, cell and molecular biology and working with animals is preferred.

h3. *Duties and what we offer* We are located on Wayne State University’s medical campus and at Detroit Medical Center, the largest healthcare provider in Michigan. Being part of the NIH Perinatology Research Branch and WSU’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, one of the nation’s top Obstetrics and Gynecology Departments, we have access to state-of-the-art facilities and interact with a large number of scientists and clinicians. Located in Midtown Detroit, the area is dominated by world-class museums, libraries and recreational facilities within walking distance, along with a burgeoning retail and restaurant sector in a neighborhood undergoing a complete transformation. Annual stipends for living in the area are also available for employees of Wayne State University. The successful candidate will undertake research under the direction of the principal investigator (PI) in collaboration with other lab members, assist the PI in data analysis, manuscript production and lab management, and acquire experience and expertise across different disciplines in biomedical sciences. A competitive salary commensurate with the candidate’s experience and very generous benefit package will be provided.
