Greets and directs patients, answers the phone, takes messages, schedules appointments, registers new patients, updates demograph! ic and insurance information, enters charges, receives cash payments, issues receipts, balances cash drawer and secures building. Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required include: 1.Successful completion of a high school education or equivalent with minimum of 3-6 months previous related experience or 3-6 months on-the-job training. 2.Medical terminology with coding experience is preferred. 3.Knowledge of billing procedures, office procedures and computer proficiency in order to perform data entry, locate patient files and print reports in an accurate and efficient manner. 4.Good communication and telephone skills to greet patients and answer the telephone in a pleasant, clear, concise, professional and enthusiastic manner. 5.Basic mathematical skills and ability to handle cash necessary to balance cash drawer. 6.Knowledge of CPT-4 and ICD-9 CM codes for billing purposes and knowledge of insurance filing requirements. 7.Ability to anticipate and react calmly to emer! gency situations. 8.Ability to establish and maintain effectiv! e working relationships with patients, employees and the public. 9. Surgery scheduling responsibilities if covering for N'orthopedics, OB/GYN, General Surgery.
