Responsibilities
Under direct supervision of the physician, performs a variety of routine administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients. These duties include the greeting and escorting of patients to the exam room; taking medical histories; the measurement and recording of vital signs; preparing patients for examination/procedure; and assisting the physician during the examination/procedure. Demonstrates clinical competence.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQ! UIRED: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) Medical Assistant Program. Must demonstrate a proven competency in pharmacology upon hire. Current BLS-C certificate or must obtain within first 60 days of employment. Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care. Completion of a clinical externship. Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Manual dexterity required to complete performance of duties. Walks, stands, stoops, and may require some heavy lifting of patients and/or equipment. Works in a patient care setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases. (August, 2011)
