The patient care technician assists nurses in providing basic care and performing specific procedures with patients. This technician works under the supervision of an RN, and the d! irection of an RN and LPN.
Department Description:
Sparrow is the regional high-risk obstetric hospital. There is a 13-bed Labor and Delivery Unit, an 8-bed OB Special Care Unit and a 6-bed triage area. There are 3 operating rooms. A highly qualified team including nurses, physicians, residents, and anesthesiologists provide care. Sparrow currently delivers over 3,805 babies annually.
Responsibilities of Position:
Demonstrates ESPIRT (behavioral) values, cooperation and positive interpersonal relations when interacting with all persons within the hospital environment and community.
Provides basic and technical care to patients as directed by a Registered Nurse.
Performs specific patient procedures and treatments according to Hospital guidelines and policies.
Documents care given and patient response in patient records.
Cleans and maintains equipment and environment.
Demonstrates knowledge a! nd use of appropriate equipment and supplies to provide qualit! y patient care and a safe environment.
Assumes the mentor role for new PCT's.
Assumes responsibility for ongoing education and completion of mandatory requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned. Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance by respecting the privacy and confidentiality of those we serve.
Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider and organizational confidentiality procedures and protocols defined under the HIPAA Privacy Policies and follows HIPAA procedures when using or disclosing protected health information.
Performs data entry and data retreival on the STAR, TraceVue, and Tempest computer systems.
Working Conditions:
Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious disease.
Extensive walking, standing, lifting, pulling and pushing associated with patien! t care.
Potential for chemical exposure.
Unpredictable meal times, breaks are scheduled around patient needs.
Use of latex 100% of the time and constantly exposed to a latex environment.
Data entry with exposure to CRT screen.
Job Requirements:
Requires either current PCT experience, CNA certification with acute care experience or current enrollment in a nursing program with successful completion of at least one med-surg clinical rotation.
