This job opening is for a Unit-Based Temporary RN position in the BHA, BMG, BW2, SHC a! nd TGM Ambulatory Care, Decentralized Float Pool.
- Please note that these positions do not qualify for UMHS benefits and specific terms and conditions of employment are negotiated at the department level.
- In addition:
- Once the employee meets the 400 hour threshold, they then are a union member for the duration of employment as Per Diem.
Knowledge and appropriate use of internal and external resources related to patient care.
Provide functional supervision to assistive personnel.
Work with physicians/provider and other disciplines to carry out clinical standards of care for various patient diagnoses and to promote continuity of care.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to direct nursing practice and prioritize problem solving with the application of nursing judgment in a variety of situations.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
Minimum of two years of recent RN experience (non- research based), caring for adult medicine patients and demonstrating application of the nursing process, including telehealth nursing and patient education.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills through use of the nursing process.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and to work with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and build respectful relationships within and between units and indivi! duals.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and problem solve ef! fectively and efficiently.
Demonstrated ability to seek constructive approaches to resolving workplace issues.

Two years of primary care RN experience, in ambulatory care setting, caring for adult medicine, pediatric, and/or Ob/Gyn patients.
Experience with pediatric patients and/or ob/gyn patients.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills t! hrough use of the nursing process for symptom based telephone triage/advice.
Demonstrated experience in providing chronic care management education (i.e. asthma, CAD, diabetes, hypertension).
BSN
Proficiency with Mi-Chart documentation/ notifications. Work Schedule

PER DIEM/UNIT-BASED TEMPORARY NURSE GUIDELINES
1. Each Per Diem or unit-based temporary employee working three or more shifts per scheduling period will be scheduled to work a minimum of two weekend shifts per scheduling period (8 hours = 1 shift). The contractual definition of a weekend applies for Per Diem or unit-based temporary employees.*
Per Di! em or unit-based temporary nurses who preschedule two or fewer shifts p! er scheduling period do not have to meet the weekend requirements.
They may add additional UNANTICIPATED SHIFTS ONLY.
2. Each Per Diem or unit-based temporary nurse will be expected to work a portion of scheduled shifts on off shifts (recommended guide: 25%).
3. Managers may establish additional guidelines based upon individual unit scheduling requirements. Therefore, it is recommended that managers and per diem nurses or unit-based temporary meet to discuss specific unit
expectations.
4. Each Per Diem or unit-based temporary nurse will be scheduled to work the number of shifts during holiday weeks that reflects his/her normal scheduling pattern. Per Diem or unit-based temporary nurses should be scheduled to work shifts during three out of the six holiday weeks and one of these weeks should be Christmas or New Year's week. (A week is defined as Sunday through Saturday during which the holiday falls).
Per Diem or unit-bas! ed temporary nurses are to be scheduled after all regular staff are scheduled per contract language.
