An Ultrasound Technologist is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing, academic, and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services! using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Ultrasound Technologist includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARDMS specialty certification(s) which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating findings of diagnostic examinations using sonography as appropriate.
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the ultrasound lab, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to pursue lifelong learning to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, ! disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
Qualif! ications:
Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and/or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or equivalent clinical diagnostic setting experience including hospital, clinic or private practice is required. Bachelor of Science degree is desirable.
One year full time work experience preferred.
Registry eligible new graduates may apply. Ultrasound technologists performing general ultrasound imaging, including abdomen, small parts, and obstetrics/gynecology, must obtain and maintain active certifications by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Abdomen and OB/GYN specialties within one year of the date of hire.
Ultrasound technologists performing vascular and cardiac ultrasound must obtain and maintain active certifications as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and/or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer! (RDCS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within two years of the date of hire.
Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate and ARDMS re-credentialing yearly requirements to maintain active registrant status.
Current BLS certification required.
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner in person and by phone.
